Eye for an Eye

Eye for an Eye

Spit in the face
of the people you used to call
mother and father.

Pull their veins out
with your teeth, gnaw their
fingers down to stumps.

Make them as scared and small
as you were, back then.
Drink in the fear

that sparks in their eyes
when they see you burning,
triumphant and whole.

Hold them at arms length
as they claw for purchase.
Be merciful,

if you’d like.
Violence is poison, but
blood for blood

has always smelled
like home
to me.
